Our Data Sources

This page lists the documents behind the prices on WhatsTheCost.in, what each one covers and how we label it. It is generated from the same tariff table our pages are built from, so every document listed here is one we recorded figures from (not every figure appears on a page yet).

How each figure is labelled

• Published tariff: a price taken from an official rate list (for example a government hospital’s schedule of charges or the CGHS rate list) or from a provider’s own website.
• Quote: a price reported by a third party that we could not see in the original document, such as a news report of an official rate, a hospital document quoting a government order, or a third-party booking platform listing.
• Estimate: our modelled range where no published figure exists. Every estimate states its basis on the page.

CGHS and PM-JAY figures are reference rates: they are what those schemes pay empanelled hospitals for their beneficiaries, not the cash price a private patient pays. We show them so you have an official benchmark.

Dates are the document dates as published (many government rate lists are undated). “Checked” dates for each figure are shown in the Prices & sources box on every rebuilt page.

Known limits of these sources

• Government hospital charges usually cover the procedure or test only. Medicines, consumables, implants, stents, lenses and devices are often extra.
• Several government lists are old or undated (for example a 2013 dental schedule and a 2016 AIIMS schedule). We show the document date so you can judge it.
• The PM-JAY package rates we cite come from the HBP 2.2 list (2021). The current national package master was not retrievable from the official site when we checked; newer state lists may differ.
• NPPA knee-implant ceilings were read from a hospital document quoting the NPPA order, so they are labelled Quote. That order is extended to 15 November 2026 and we will re-check it then.
• Most private hospitals do not publish prices. Where we found no published price, the private figure on a page is an estimate and is labelled as one.
